The prequel to Outlander has confirmed the addition of four new cast members with key roles in the show.

Comprising of ten episodes, Outlander: Blood of My Blood will go further back in time to explore the relationship between Jamie's parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, and the origin story of Claire's parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp.

According to Variety, Inland's Rory Alexander, Ackley Bridge's Sam Retford, Payback's Séamus McLean Ross and The Tourist's Conor MacNeill have joined the cast as younger versions of key characters from the original series.

Alexander will star as a young Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, previously played by Duncan LaCroix. Retford will become Dougal MacKenzie, who was originally played by Graham McTavish.

McLean Ross will play Colum MacKenzie, first played by Gary Lewis, with MacNeill rounding out the new additions as Ned Gowan — previously played by Bill Paterson.

"We are thrilled to expand our season one cast with some well-known characters from the Outlander universe," said showrunner Matthew B. Roberts. "We're so excited to welcome Rory, Sam, Séamus and Conor to the MacKenzie and Fraser clans and to explore the young journeys of these fan-favourite characters."

Blood of My Blood previously revealed its four main stars, ahead of production starting in Scotland.

The official Instagram account for Outlander shared the four leads, welcoming Harriet Slater (Pennyworth, Belgravia: The Next Chapter) as Ellen, Jamie Roy (Condor's Nest) as Brian, Hermione Corfield (The Road Dance, We Hunt Together) as Julia and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) as Henry.

"Big news, Outlander family! Meet our fabulous leads for Outlander: #BloodOfMyBlood which is now OFFICIALLY in production in Scotland," the post reads.

"The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie's parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire's parents in WWI England," it continued.

The prequel will see Outlander book series author Diana Gabaldon serve as consulting producer, with the main show's executive producer and writer Roberts becoming showrunner.

"We're thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples," Roberts said in a statement. "The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we're so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie."

Outlander: Blood of My Blood doesn't have a release date yet. Outlander airs on Starz in the US, and streams on Lionsgate+ in the UK.
