Outlander star Lauren Lyle is set to star in the new Netflix series Toxic Town.

Deadline reports that the actress, who plays Marsali in Outlander, has landed an unconfirmed role that will see her join an all-star cast.

As previously reported, Toxic Town will star Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker, who showed off a new short blonde hairstyle for the role in set pictures published back in September.

Toxic Town tells the true story of the 2009 Corby poisonings scandal that made headlines in the UK.

Northamptonshire town Corby was the location of a major steelworks in the UK until it closed in the early 1980s — but not before a huge amount of toxic waste had been deposited.

The local council spent a decade attempting to remove the waste, which led to contamination spreading to populated areas and impacting the local community's health.

In a landmark court case, the council was found to be negligent. It was also proven for the first time that there was a link between toxic pollution in the environment and birth defects.

Alongside Whittaker and now Lyle, the four-part limited series also stars The Full Monty's Robert Carlyle, Sex Education's Aimee Lou Wood, Our Flag Means Death's Rory Kinnear, and Downton Abbey's Brendan Coyle.

Filming in the UK has already begun, with Enola Holmes and His Dark Materials writer Jack Thorne penning the script.

Meanwhile, Whittaker recently shared that she's "grief-ridden" at no longer being The Doctor.

"It's my absolute happiness, that job," she said while appearing on the podcast Kermode & Mayo's Take. "I will never get to dance through a series and have the joy and magic in any other role. I will be forever grief-ridden that I'm not The Doctor."

Outlander airs on Starz in the US, and streams on Lionsgate+ in the UK.
