Apple TV+ has released a new trailer for its upcoming true-crime drama Manhunt starring Outlander's Tobias Menzies.

The seven-part series, which debuts on March 15, 2024, tells the story of one of the best known crimes in history - the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the subsequent hunt for his killer John Wilkes Booth.

Based on author James L. Swanson's nonfiction book Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer, the conspiracy thriller stars Menzies as Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, the man tasked with catching Booth following Lincoln's death.

Starring alongside Menzies on the cast is Masters of the Air actor Anthony Boyle, who portrays Booth, Eternals star Patton Oswalt and Daisy Jones & The Six's Will Harrison.

They are joined by Greenleaf star Lovie Simone, 13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Flynn, Hatfields & McCoys star Damian O'Hare, The Resident's Glenn Morshower, Veep star Matt Walsh, and The Big Short actor Hamish Linklater.

The new trailer sees Booth as he prepares to assassinate the 16th president of the United States. After carrying out the deed, the manhunt led by Stanton ensues.

Manhunt is created by Fargo producer Monica Beletsky, who also serves as executive producer and showrunner.

Previously speaking about Menzies in an interview with Vanity Fair, Beletsky said: "He brings a high level of intelligence to a role. [Stanton] was one of the top trial lawyers in the country, and Tobias does it so convincingly that you believe this man has been in the Supreme Court, that he has been sitting with Lincoln."

On Stanton's role as an important historical figure, she added: "That was very impressive to me, how ahead of his time he was. Part of my hope is that he will be someone our audience will admire as well and take inspiration from.

Manhunt debuts on Apple TV+ on March 15.
