New outlet store ready to open in Rockford. What you need to know

ROCKFORD — A national discount chain billing itself as “America’s largest retailer of closeout merchandise and excess inventory” is preparing to open a Rockford location.

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet plans to open a store on Sept. 15 at 5830 E. State St., the former home of Old Time Pottery.

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet offers everything from housewares and sporting goods to clothing and food items at up to 70% below other stores prices on name-brand merchandise, according to the company's website.

The company’s business model involves buying merchandise directly from manufacturers and other retailers in bulk and selling in smaller quantities to customers with the minimum operational and distribution costs. The end result, according to the company, is products sold at deeply discounted prices.

“Ollie’s buyers scour the world looking for closeouts, overstocks, package changes, manufacturer refurbished goods and irregulars,” according to a statement on the company’s website.
