This outrageous doughnut ice cream sandwich shop is coming soon to Phoenix. What to know

Yonutz is opening its first Arizona dessert shop at Desert Ridge in Phoenix later this summer.

The concept started in 2018 when CEO Tony Bahu purchased a doughnut shop in Florida, revamped it and started making outrageous treats. “I said, ‘I’m gonna create something so off the charts that we’re not going to have competition,’” Bahu told Franchise Times in 2022. Thus the "smashed" doughnut was born. It's a doughnut cut in half, stuffed with ice cream, hot pressed and served with a variety of toppings. Bahu's son's TikTok videos of his family's shop have amassed millions of followers.

With a mission "to provide a fantastical dessert experience to dessert lovers everywhere," Bahu started franchising in 2022.

What to expect at the 'one-of-a-kind' doughnut shop

For the Phoenix project, Yonutz has partnered with Archsol, a local architecture firm. “We are thrilled to have partnered with Yonutz to design this one-of-a-kind donut shop in Phoenix,” lead architect Trevor Ridley said in a press release. "We believe that Yonutz will become a beloved destination for donut enthusiasts and a testament to innovative design.”

According to Ridley, the shop will feature "a central donut display, allowing customers to witness the artistry of freshly made treats and the signature 'Smashed' station."
