Highlands Nature Center is open for summer hours: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Saturday and closed on Sundays. Free, daily educational programs are offered.

-- Nature Center Night: Owl Prowl is 7 – 7:45 p.m. June 6 from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Join Balsam Mountain Trust for a special meeting with their live owl ambassadors and learn more about these amazing nocturnal raptors. Bring a flashlight for this adventure. This program is weather-dependent. Registration is required.

-- Nature Center Night: Going Batty is 9 – 10 p.m. June 7. Learn about the fascinating world of bats, then join naturalists in the Botanical Garden to seek them out. Bring a flashlight for this adventure. This program is weather-dependent. Registration is required. Visit highlandsbiological.org.

Summer Twilight in the Treetops night climbs are Saturday nights June 3 – Sept. 2 at Adventure Center of Asheville. Five of the park’s aerial trails are illuminated. Zipping for Autism is June 4 at Adventure Center of Asheville.All proceeds will be donated to Camp Lakey Gap, which offers recreational and therapeutic programs to children with autism, vocational training opportunities for adults with autism, educational presentations and respite opportunities for parents and families, and scholarships for summer camp programs. Parkway Playhouse in Burnsville offers summer programs. Musical Theatre Intensive Camp for ages 10 – 18 is 9 a.m. – noon June 5 – 9. The cost is $100. Summer Improv Series Workshop for age 14 and older is at 6 p.m. June 8 and 15 and July 13 and 20. Pay what you can for the workshop. Donations will be accepted at door.
