OV swim competes at Greencastle, West Vigo
The Owen Valley swim and dive team traveled to Greencastle and the Vigo County Aquatic Center for meets recently.
At Greencastle, the Lady Patriots 'A' medley relay team of Kit Kat Kelley (backstroke), Lola James (breaststroke), Marina Knieriem (butterfly), and Ines Hidalgo (freestyle), took second with a time of 2:53.14.
Knieriem also took first place in the 100 yard butterfly while Hidalgo had a personal record (PR) in the 50 freestyle with a time of 36.39. Kelley also had a PR in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:21.56.
In the girls' 100 backstroke, Klaudia Stahl and Catie Harries each had a PR time with Stahl swimming a 1:43.10 and Harris a 1:54.65.
The 100 breaststroke was swam by three Lady Patriots, including Hailey Manuel, Lola James and Lillian James, finishing in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the boys' competition, Tucker McCarty was second on the 100 butterfly and in the 100 freestyle, Aidan Christy, Jose Manzano and Sawyer LaGrange all competed with LaGrange finishing in 1:09.90, another personal best time.
In the boys' 100 backstroke, Kyvin Willoughby had a PR time of 1:56.77.
McCarty had an outstanding PR time in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a time of 116.94.
"I again have to mention our Owen Valley divers," OV swim coach Candance James said. "Marina Knieriem and Tristan Calvin had a wonderful night doing their dives and making their school proud.
The Patriots took on West Vigo, Bloomfield and South Vermillion at the Vigo County Aquatic Center last week with several PR times in the process.
The boys' 200 medley relay team of Tristan Calvin, Tucker McCarty, Sawyer LaGrange and Jose Manzano, placed second with a PR time of 2:12.99.
Manzo and Kyvin Willoughby both swam the 50 freestyle, putting in personal records in the process with Manzano swimming a 29.94 and Willoughby a 34.17.
In the 100 freestyle, Aidan Christy, Willoughby and LaGrange competed with fantastic results.
Big highlights of the night in the boys' competition were records broken by two Patriot competitors.
Tristan Calvin finished with a personal best in diving and Tucker McCarty broke the Owen Valley school record in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.91.
In the girls' competition, Rylee York swam the 200 freestyle with a personal best time of 3:09.16. Lola James and Ines Hidalgo each had a PR time in the 50 freestyle, James a 35.80 and Hidalgo a 36.40.
Madyson Whicker swam a PR time of 1:22.59 in the 100 freestyle.
"I'm so proud of all of my OV swimmers and divers," Coach James noted. "I look forward to our next two big meets at Schools with no Pools at the IUPUI Natatorium and the WIC, hosted at Indian Creek."
