OV track & field competes at WIC meet; Bryce Mills crowned conference champ

The Owen Valley boys' and girls' cross country teams took part in the Western Indiana Conference championship meets this past week.

In the boys' event on Thursday at Northview, the Patriots had one conference champion crowned in junior Bryce Mills. Mills won the shot put event with a throw of 51-11.50.

Other top five finishers for the Patriots included Riley Brock who was second in long jump at 19-9.75 and second in high jump at 5-10. Dylan Herbert brought home a third place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:05.28.

OV competitors who advanced to the finals include:

• Paden Schwartz, 200-meter dash, 6th place in 24.14

• Tim Harden, 400-meter dash, 6th place in 54.67

• 4x100 meter relay team (Schwartz, Timothy Wheeler, Abbott Church and Kyvan Bandy), 7th place in 47.58

• 4x400 meter relay team (Elijah Anderson, Church, Dakota Heidrick, Harden), 8th place in 3:50.00

• Lucas Hendershot, 800-meter run, 9th place in 2:13.28

• Sawyer LaGrange, 300-meter hurdles, 11tT in 47.49

• Tristan Calvin, 3200-meter run, 15th in 11:53.41

• Tucker McCarty, 1600-meter run, 16th in 5:33.91

The Lady Patriots weren't able to crown any conference champs but did have a few top-five performances including Emma Bault in fourth place in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.22 and fifth in long jump with a distance of 15-2, the 4x100-meter relay team of Bault, Maddison Dawson, Reann McMillan and Olivia Wainscott in fifth in 54.88 and a fifth place finish by the 4x800-meter relay team of Becca Brown, Camie Forston, Madison Whicker and Bailey Kay in 11:30.70.

Other athletes to reach the finals include:

• Maggie Feltner, high jump, 6th place at 4-6

• Lily Smith, 800-meter run, 6th place in 2:39.26

• Marina Knieriem, pole vault 7th place at 7-0

• Emma Bault, 300-meter hurdles, 7th place in 56.25

• Olivia Wainscott, 200-meter dash, 8th in 30.30

• Lily Smith, long jump, 9th at 13-10

• Lily Wallace, high jump, 11th at 4-4

• Becca Brown, 800-meter run, 2:54.27

• Madison Whicker, 1600-meter run, 14th in 6:36.68

• Natalie Young, 400-meter dash, 14th in 1:17.43

• Camie Forston, 1600-meter run, 16th in 6:43.30

The Owen Valley girls will compete in the IHSAA sectional at Bloomington North on Tuesday, May 17 at 5:30 p.m. Athletes finishing in the top three places will advance to the Bloomington North regional on Tuesday, May 24 at 6 p.m.

The Owen Valley boys team will also compete in sectional action at Bloomington North on Thursday, May 19 at 5:30 p.m. Athletes finishing in the top three places will advance to the Bloomington North regional on Thursday, May 26 at 6 p.m.
