Apr. 3—Heading into a weekend series at Turkey Hughes Field, Austin Peay (128 walks) and EKU (120 walks) had issued more walks than any other pitching staff in the Ohio Valley Conference.
That trend continued on Friday night.
Only for one team, though.
EKU pitchers allowed 10 walks — including four by starter Louis Davenport III — and also gave up 15 hits in a 15-9 setback to the Governors.
The sixth-straight loss kept the Colonels (8-16, 3-7 OVC) in last place in the league.
Peay (8-15, 5-5 OVC) pitchers allowed 13 hits, but only one walk.
The series will conclude today with a doubleheader beginning at noon. Both games will air live on ESPN3.
An RBI single by Daniel Harris IV and a two-run home run by Caleb Upshaw in the bottom of the first inning staked EKU to an early 3-0 lead.
Down 4-3 going into the bottom of the third, the Colonels pushed across four to take back the lead.
Three-straight singles to start the frame loaded the bases. After two strikeouts nearly got the Governors out of the jam, Kendal Ewell singled to center field. Two runs would have scored, but an error on the play brought home a third and allowed Ewell to go to third base.
He scored on a double by Brent Lovell to make it a 7-4 game.
APSU came right back and scored four in the top of the fourth. Ty DeLancey capped it with a two-run home run. The Govs pulled away from there, scoring two in the fifth, four in the seventh and one in the eighth.
EKU freshman Manny Jackson hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth.
Cam Ridley was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Harris finished 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
DeLancey went 3-for-6 with three runs and four RBI. Garrett Spain had a 2-for-4 day with two runs and four driven in.
