Over 1 million Bose bass modules recalled after some ignited, melted or caught on fire
A bass module should add to your home viewing experience, not threaten to burn the house down. That’s why Bose recalled 1,000,300 bass modules in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The problem, as stated in the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice: “The speaker’s electrical components can fail, posing a fire hazard.”
And, Bose knows about 21 incidents of “the bass modules igniting or melting, including three incidents of fires resulting in property damage to carpeting, an entertainment cabinet and to materials surrounding the bass box.”
This covers Bose Acoustimass, Lifestyle and Companion bass modules that were made before April 2006. For the Acoustimass 6 III Home Entertainment System and Acoustimass 15 II Home Entertainment System, the relevant date codes are between 2090 and 6091. All date codes are covered for these systems:
▪ Acoustimass 10 III Home Entertainment System; 16 Home Entertainment System; 5 Series IV Powered Speaker System; 15 Home Theater Speaker System; and 20 Powered Speaker System.
▪ Powered Acoustimass 5 Series III Speaker System; 5 Series IV Speaker System; 8 Speaker System; 8 Series II Speaker System; 9 Speaker System; 20 Speaker System; 25 Speaker System; 25 Series II Speaker System; 30 Speaker System; 30 Series II Speaker System; 800 Speaker System; and 900 Speaker System.
