Majority Of Delco Coronavirus Deaths Are Nursing Home Residents

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health shows a majority of coronavirus-related deaths in Delaware County have occurred in nursing home residents.

Figures provided by the state show that as of noon Friday, there have been 49 deaths in Delco nursing home facilities.

According to figures provided by the Chester County Department of Health, Delaware County has seen 74 deaths to date.

State data provided Friday shows the county has 73 deaths. But Chester County, which is serving Delaware County's public health needs amid the pandemic, differences in data is usually due to cases that are incorrectly assigned to counties, which is corrected prior to reporting. Chester County said local data reflects the most accurate figures.

Nursing home residents also account for 375 of the county's 2,281 cases, according to state and county data.

Additionally, 38 employees at 37 nursing home facilities in Delaware County have the virus, according to state data.

In the county, Upper Darby still has the highest case count with 224. However, 862 cases have not had locations identified.

Yeadon has seen the most deaths with 13. The locations of five other deaths are pending.
