Over 519,000 residents in Kyiv contracted COVID-19 during the quarantine period, with nearly 2% of them succumbing to the disease, the First Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration, Mykola Povoroznyk, reported on July 4.

Among those who fell ill, 38,725 were children aged between 0 and 17 years. The left-bank districts of the city, namely Desnianskyi, Darnytskyi, and Dniprovskyi, had the highest incidence of infection.

Throughout the pandemic, 48,674 COVID-19 patients (9.3% of the total cases) were hospitalized in the capital. Additionally, there were 9,532 registered fatalities (1.8%), while 510,057 individuals successfully recovered from the virus.

Povoroznyk also emphasized that 11,408 healthcare workers were infected with the coronavirus during the pandemic.

“When your loved ones are absent, medical workers become a source of support,” Povoroznyk said.

“Often, doctors stayed with patients around the clock. I am grateful to every healthcare professional in that challenging phase.”

As of July 1, the quarantine and the state of emergency imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic have ended in Ukraine. COVID-19 will now be classified as a seasonal disease, similar to the flu. Vaccinations against COVID-19 will remain recommended but not mandatory and will continue to be provided free of charge.
