Firefighters use boat to rescue 4 people from stalled cab after downpours flood streets of Lawrence

Downpours caused street flooding in parts of the Merrimack Valley overnight as heavy rain drenched the region.

Flooding in the area of Andover and Amherst streets left cars submerged and streets impassable, leaving some motorists stranded.

A cab driving through the neighborhood stalled in the floodwaters and firefighters had to use an inflatable boat to rescue the driver and three passengers, officials said.

Parked cars were also consumed with water in the area of Logan, Eaton, and Jackson streets.

In addition to the flooding, part of ceiling collapsed in a nearby apartment.

There were no reported injuries.

Most streets in the area have since reopened to traffic.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
