Despite the shooting, one University of Memphis student feels the area is generally safe.

“You see a lot of students come here and its good vibes near the stadium so I feel very safe here,” Christopher Craine said.

Kevin Salinas, who lives nearby, says the gun violence is out of control.

“It amazes me how there was a shooting here last night, this is a really good area here,” Salinas said. “I think parents need to be more involved in their child’s life. They should do something about the gun laws.”

Police say the suspect was driving a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee. This is still an ongoing investigation.
