Overnight storms bring some roadway water Monday, expect more rain this week

Overnight storms in metro Detroit created a wet commute Monday, with some places seeing 1-2 inches of rainfall.

It was not a problem, though, for most areas, according to the National Weather Service in White Lake.

But the rain did put a damper on most efforts to watch the lunar eclipse.

The heaviest rain, meteorologist Ian Lee said, was in the eastern suburbs near Macomb County, and in low-lying areas, there was some of the usual roadway floodings — but it is expected to eventually clear out.

"We're not expecting any long-term issues with that," Lee added.

The forecast for the rest of Monday calls for high temperatures to hit the mid-70s, and there's a potential for some lingering showers, perhaps even "a rumble of thunder — or two" into the afternoon.

But they should end by tonight.

For the rest of the week, Tuesday is expected to be dry. Wednesday could bring more rain, "quick-hit" showers, Lee called them. Thursday looks to be dry again, and Friday, there could be thunderstorms, but it's too soon to predict with much accuracy.
