‘Overwhelming’ illness closes local school

WADSWORTH, Ohio (WJW) – A private school in Medina County told students and staff that school was canceled on Tuesday because of an “overwhelming amount” of absences and sick students.

According to a post on the Northside Christian Academy Facebook page, cleaning crews are working to disinfect the building, and parents are advised to monitor their children for any symptoms of illness. The post states many students and staff reported a fever.

Data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows a “high” number of people in Ohio reporting influenza-like illnesses in recent weeks including fever, cough, or a sore throat.
