The Owl House spoilers follow.

The Owl House – a Disney animated series which has received tons of praise for its positive LGBTQ+ representation – is back for season three, but this new chapter will unfortunately be the last we'll see Luz, King and Eda because the show is officially ending.

Created by Dana Terrace, the series follows a human girl who accidentally stumbles upon a portal to the Demon Realm on her way to summer camp. Here, she befriends a rebellious witch and her demon housemate, who help her pursue her dreams of becoming a witch.

Unfortunately, The Owl House's second season hadn't even finished airing before it was announced that season three would wrap up the show.

"It sucks," Owl House voice actor Zeno Robinson said (via The Gamer). "There were so many stories to be told that the second season was building towards, so to have so much of that cut or cut short is so unfortunate."

"One day I do want to sit after it’s aired to talk about the rumblings I have heard about what things were going to develop into or what things were looking to be until everything kinda got railroaded. I see the response. Every week it trends [on Twitter] so as a viewer you’re like, do you guys not like money or success?"

Following its cancellation in October 2021, Terrace took to Reddit for an Ask Me Anything and claimed the show wasn't axed because of low viewership or issues related to the pandemic, but rather because some Disney executives didn't think it fit the company's brand.

"There are a few business people who oversee what fits into the Disney brand and one day one of those guys decided TOH didn't fit that 'brand'," she wrote. "The story is serialised (BARELY compared to any average anime lmao), our audience skews older, and that just didn't fit this one guy's tastes.

"That's it! Ain't that wild? Really grinds my guts, boils my brain, kicks my shins, all the things. It sucks but it is what it is."

As sad as it may be, we still have some epic episodes of The Owl House on the way. So what can we expect from them and when can we expect them?

The Owl House season three is doing things a little differently. Rather than a full season run (which is typically 20 episodes), the series will instead be wrapping up across three 44-minute specials.

The first of these, titled 'Thanks to Them', launched on Disney Channel on October 15, 2022. It became available on Disney+ for international viewers three months later.

Episode two, titled 'For The Future', dropped on January 21, 2023 but is yet to be given a Disney+ release date. Check back in here and we'll update you as soon as we know more!

The show's final episode, 'Watching and Dreaming', is due for a release in the spring, but anything more specific is yet to be announced. As for a Disney+ drop, we're expect it won't make an appearance before the end of the year, we're afraid.

We promise as soon as we know more, you'll know more!

Season three kicked off with Luz and her friends back in the human world, with Luz trying to figure out whether she should continue to help with getting back to the Demon Realm, or remain where she is.

Meanwhile, Hunter became unknowingly possessed by Belos, and the group eventually find their way back to the Demon Realm as a result of this twist.

Episode two saw the gang return to Boiling Isles, discovering the Collector had gained control and was wreaking havoc. The gang find a group of survivors in the Owl House, who have created a new society run by Boscha, who has instilled a series of strict rules while being influenced by a disguised Kikimora.

By the time the episode ends, Luz and her friends had convinced the school to rise up against Kikimora and head to the Collector's castle.
