Owleyes Farm to host flood benefit concert

Drivers making their way up or down US 25 in southern Madison County may have noticed a storage container with a vibrant drawing of an owl.

On Saturday, the owl will have a particularly important sight in it's gaze, as Owleyes Farm will host a benefit concert for those recovering from flooding in southeastern Kentucky.

Owleyes Farm is located at 10981 Battlefield Memorial Highway. The show is being presented by Bloody Breathitt Studios and Asgard Audio Production. It kicks off at noon on Saturday and will run until 1 a.m. on Sunday.

The entry fee is a $5 or more donation in money, food, clothing, personal hygiene products, or water.

Owleyes sits on a 30-acre farm. Apart from producing timber, it is also a venue for events.

"The focus of the farm right now is an agritourism model with us hosting routine musical events. We've hosted all types of music — our motto is that we're allies for all. We try to support and bring in diverse folks. We try to present diverse music, specifically bringing in African-American artists," Edd Easton-Hogg, clinical psychologist and owner of Owleyes Farm, explained.

Owleyes Farm has also offered short-term housing to people in need — like veterans, travelers, or those recently released from incarceration — in exchange for help around the farm.

According to Easton-Hogg, hosting the benefit for flood victims was another way to continue that mission of helping out those in need.

Bloody Breathitt Studios, a Breathitt County based music studio, released a statement to the Register about the benefit concert.

"Many of our loved ones have been affected by this tragedy and Bloody Breathitt Studios and Asgard Audio Production have came together for a great cause," the statement reads. "As it says in our name, Bloody Breathitt Studios was founded in southeast Kentucky in Breathitt County. This is where we are from, what drives us today, and gave us the roots of where we came from. It just seemed right to do this and help our brothers and sisters."

A variety of artists will be performing at the concert. They include:

Mr. Lugosi

The Human Tragedy

Aloha Cowboy

Great American Culture Issue

The Bryant C Project

Ole Justin Chambers & Trailer Trash

Josh Secrest

Kyarn

The Crosswalks
