KD Pizza & Subs' new owner John Bell is excited to be operating his first pizza shop at 247 Marion Ave.

Bell opened the business Feb. 1 after renovating the pizza shop from floor to ceiling.

The existing KD pizza restaurant had been closed since March. It features a full menu of specialty pizzas and Bell said the Zesty Deluxe is a customer favorite with two kinds of pepperoni and two kinds of sausage.

"Our boneless wings are exceptional," he added.

"I'm excited to offer good, quality pizza and to get it to customers in 15 minutes," Bell said Wednesday afternoon.

KD Pizza does not offer delivery at this time.

KD offers pizzas, subs, boneless wings, salads and more.

Bell said he plans to expand the menu and bring back the famous Jojo wedge-style potatoes.

"We brought back the combination classic and customers love it," he said.

He described the pizzas as traditional and new, and said customers have been keeping the staff busy since the shop opened. Hours are 2 to 10 p.m. every day but Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when KD is closed.

Bell, who also owns Free Spray Lawn Care, plans to open an Italian-themed restaurant this coming summer at the site of the former Papa Gondola's restaurant on Ohio 309 in Ontario. Bell plans to offer the same kinds of menu items at KD Pizza & Subs plus more.

He said he is still looking for a few more people to hire to allow the business to be open at lunchtime and extend its hours.

He moved to the Mansfield area in 2007 from New York and said he has always liked eating pizza and decided to go into the business when he learned KD Pizza was for sale in this neighborhood.

He and his wife Kim have two daughters, Ally, 13, and Avery, 8.
