Owners announce iconic Bertha's restaurant up to go up for auction

A longtime iconic restaurant in Fells Point is going to auction. Bertha's in Fells Point is closing its doors for good at the end of the year and heading to auction next month as its owners prepare for retirement. The funky, eclectic corner bar and restaurant -- famous for its green "Eat Bertha's Mussels" bumper stickers that have been seen on each continent across the globe -- will hit the auction block in an online sale starting at noon on Nov. 12. The opening bid is $750,000 for two buildings totaling about 7,000 square feet, with the liquor license and mostly all equipment and furnishings thrown in as part of the deal, according to the Alex Cooper Auctioneers website, which is handling the deal. The buildings are located at 730 and 734 S. Broadway.
