Owners of Mexican restaurant driven out of business by road construction find a new spot

The owners of the former Los Compas restaurant — which closed in April after battling road construction for months at 4559 N. Woodlawn — have found a new spot.

Owners Fernando Aguirre and his brother-in-law Hector Onate announced on Facebook on Wednesday that they’re taking over the spot at 6600 W. Central that most recently held Bchic Bar & Grill and Sam’s Southern Eatery before that. The space is best known as the longtime home of Marcos Cantina.

Instead of Los Compas, though, the owners plan to call the restaurant Casa Mexicana.

The owners said online that they would alert customers in a Facebook post after the restaurant is open. Landlord Sam Eddine says that he expects they’ll be ready in about a month.

Los Compas fought road construction related to the city of Bel Aire’s Woodlawn Expansion Project practically from the day it opened, and the owners finally gave up after nearly two years in business. At the time, they say they hoped to eventually find a new space and reopen.

Originally, they opened under the name Los Cunados but changed it to Los Campos in early February. The restaurant served a menu filled with traditional Mexican fare. The owners say the menu will be the same at Casa Mexicana.

On Wednesday, the owners said they’d be willing to talk about the move at a later date. Stay tuned for updates.
