Oxnard police respond to two shootings, hours apart

Oxnard police are investigating two separate shootings hours apart Thursday evening.

The first incident was a report of a gunshot victim around 4:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Piedra Way, according to the Oxnard Police Department. Police said they found an 18-year-old Oxnard man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

He was transported to the hospital and was in stable condition, police said. The wound was not considered life threatening.

About two miles away in the 1300 block of Devonshire Drive, the second shooting was reported shortly before 8:30 p.m. Cmdr. Kevin Baysinger said the shooting occurred in a shopping center.

The victim suffered a minor wound to the hand. It was not clear whether the victim knew the shooter, he said.

"We can't be certain of the circumstances at this point," Baysinger said.

He said they had no indication that the shootings were related as of 9:40 p.m. No suspect information was available for either incident.
