Oxnard woman identified as driver in fatal crash on Conejo Grade

A 21-year-old woman died in a single-vehicle crash atop the Conejo Grade early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim in the crash was identified by CHP as Angelina Martinez, 21, of Oxnard.

The crash occurred around 3:42 a.m. along northbound Highway 101 just past the weigh station at the top of the Conejo Grade, according to a CHP report.

Martinez was driving a 2008 Honda when, for reasons under investigation, she drove onto the right shoulder and collided with a light pole. The car then traveled left across all lanes of traffic until it hit the center median, at which point it came to a stop.

First responders arrived and pronounced Martinez dead at the scene. She was found not wearing a seatbelt, CHP said. No other occupants were inside the vehicle and no other vehicles were believed to be involved.

It remains unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved in causing the crash. The crash caused the left two lanes to close for investigators along northbound Highway 101 at the Conejo Grade on Sunday morning.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information for investigators can call the Moorpark-area CHP office at 805-553-0800.
