**Heads-up, spoilers ahead!**

Throughout its epic run, Ozark had many twists and turns. But nothing could've prepared fans for the heart-wrenching season 4 finale of the Jason Bateman-led drama. That said, it might not actually be the end.

After witnessing Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner)’s death and the Byrde family’s survival, lots of folks immediately took to social media to call for the Netflix show to keep going. As viewers know, Ozark season 4 part 2 was the highly anticipated conclusion. Still, this hasn’t stopped fans from asking for more, including a fifth installment. “Season 5 has to happen,” one person wrote on Instagram. “Is there going to be a movie now?” another added.

Though the original Ozark series is definitely finished, some aren’t off base to request a different kind of extension. “I'd love to see a spinoff or continuation of some sorts! Make this a franchise,” a different fan said. As it turns out, Ozark’s showrunner Chris Mundy has considered this possibility—with some clear limits.

In a recent interview with TVLine, the executive producer revealed that although an Ozark spinoff isn’t currently in the works, it’s an idea that he has seriously thought about. “It’s definitely something that people have talked about a bunch. There’s nothing definitive,” he told the outlet. “We’re lucky that people seem to really like the show so there’s obviously going to be some interest there.”

With that in mind, Mundy discussed how a spinoff could use Ozark as a jumping point. “There are still ways to stay inside the show and revisit things,” he said. But noted that not everyone might be happy about the franchise growing without a particular businesswoman. “I’m sure people probably would’ve been happier if Ruth was out there."

So, why won’t there be an Ozark season 5? According to the creator, he wanted to close the door before diving into another related project. “It was really important for me to end this show,” he told the site. “This is the work we did, we did our best and we hope people like it. And then anything that spins off from it would be its own distinct thing, even though it’s in our universe.”
