Ozark mayor announces Whataburger could be coming soon

Ozark Mayor Bradley Jackson announced on his Facebook page Thursday that popular fast food chain Whataburger could soon be opening a location there.

Jackson said Whataburger filed a building permit with the city of Ozark.

"Soon you will be able to enjoy their delicious menu items," Jackson's post said.

If everything goes through, then this will be the second Whataburger location coming to the Springfield area. Whataburger also submitted an application back in November 2021 to build a restaurant in Republic.

Whataburger is a popular Texas-based fast food restaurant chain that specializes in hamburgers. The company was founded by Harmon Dobson and opened its first restaurant in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1950. There are now more than 850 locations across 14 states.

Whataburger recently entered the Kansas City market with locations in Lee's Summit and Independence following a tweet from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

In the next seven years, KMO Burger — a new investor-led franchise group that includes Mahomes — will open 30 Whataburgers spanning from Wichita, Kansas to St. Joseph, Missouri.
