Pa. adjutant general recognizes local members for extraordinary service

Sep. 23—The adjutant general of Pennsylvania on Tuesday recognized 30 Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs employees and Pennsylvania National Guard members, including several from Schuylkill County, for their "extraordinary service to veterans and citizens across the commonwealth and nation."

The ceremony took place as part of Pennsylvania National Guard and Veterans Day at the state Capitol, an event to raise awareness and support for both the DMVA and PNG.

The PNG is the second largest National Guard in the nation and is composed of nearly 18,000 soldiers and airmen who reside in every county in Pennsylvania.

The PNG is part of the DMVA's dual mission, which also includes providing programs and services to Pennsylvania's nearly 800,000 veterans, the fourth largest veteran population in the nation.

"It is with great pride that we honor these dedicated men and women for leading by example and demonstrating our agency's values of integrity, selfless service, diversity, courage and respect," Maj. Gen. Mark J. Schindler, Pennsylvania's adjutant general and head of the DMVA, was quoted in a news release. "Together, we serve our communities, our commonwealth and our country. A heavy lift for many, but one our agency excels at because of special people like those recognized today."
