Pa. Attorney General calls for ticket reselling website to refund some customers

A ticket reselling website will refund some customers after the Pennsylvania Attorney General said it unfairly changed its refund policy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, Secure Ticket Purchase quietly changed its policy to only offer store credit for shows that got canceled.

Additionally, the Commonwealth’s investigation alleges that Secure failed to comply with Pennsylvania’s ticket resale statute, which was introduced to combat ticket scalping, the Attorney General’s Office said.

The Attorney General’s Office also said the site has been one of the largest ticket resale platforms for Pennsylvanians.

“Secure Ticket Purchase thought they could walk away with consumers’ hard-earned money by surreptitiously changing their refund policy in the middle of a pandemic,” said Attorney General Michelle Henry. “This settlement puts all ticket resellers on notice: if you deceive Pennsylvanians to maximize your bottom line, you will be held accountable.”

The refund affects some tickets bought before Nov. 19, 2021 through boxofficeticketsales.com for shows that ended up being canceled. To get the refund, the customer can’t have already received a refund for their ticket.

Pennsylvanians who fall into this category should contact the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection by filing a consumer complaint online at www.attorneygeneral.gov/submit-a-complaint/consumer-complaint/ or email consumers@attorneygeneral.gov on or before Monday, June 26, 2023.
