(WHTM) – Just 24 hours after candidates could begin circulating petitions to appear on the 2024 primary ballot, Democrat Auditor General candidate Malcolm Kenyatta says he’s already met the requirements.

The Kenyatta campaign says they’ve exceeded the 1,000 minimum signature requirement with petitions from five counties: Allegheny, Delaware, Chester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.

The campaign says they plan to submit supplemental petitions from all 67 counties in the coming weeks.

“We aren’t messing around,” said State Rep. Kenyatta. “The election this November is life or death for our democracy and will require us to meet people where they are — and make a strong case for electing myself and Democrats up and down the ballot. I believe my team of dedicated staff, volunteers, committee people, and PA Dems writ large, are up to that task. Pennsylvania’s working families deserve a government that works for us and we’ll flip the Auditor General’s office this fall to ensure it.”

Kenyatta is running in the Democratic Auditor General primary against fellow State Representative Mark Rozzi and Lehigh County Controller Mark Pinsley.

Incumbent Auditor General Timothy DeFoor was endorsed by Pennsylvania Republicans in his bid to serve a second term.

Candidates have until February 13 to submit petitions to appear on the April 23 ballot. Residents signing petitions can only sign one candidate’s petition in the Auditor General race for their registered party.
