A 16-year-old and 11-year-old were also riding on the ATV and sustained "serious" injuries, according to the FHP report, and were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital.

According to Santa Rosa County Schools, both teens attend Pace High School, and the 11-year-old is a student at Wallace Lake K-8 School.

"We're all devastated," a Santa Rosa Schools spokesperson told the News Journal. "Anytime anyone goes through a process such as this, it is very tough. It's tough for the family, it's tough for the students and the school community."

FHP troopers are still investigating the incident.
