Packers elevate CB Tramon Williams to gameday roster for NFC title game

The Green Bay Packers will have veteran cornerback Tramon Williams available for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game.

The team elevated Williams to the gameday roster from the practice squad as a COVID-19 replacement for offensive tackle Jared Veldheer, who remains on the reserve list.

The Packers signed Williams to the practice squad on Thursday. He returned to Green Bay after playing six games with the Baltimore Ravens, including last week’s playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Now on his third stint with the Packers, Williams played in all 34 games with the Packers in 2018 and 2019, including both playoff games last season. He operated as Mike Pettine’s go-to defender in the slot last season but could provide depth at all positions in the secondary, including safety.

The last game Williams played with the Packers was last year’s NFC Championship Game loss to the San Francisco 49ers. If he plays Sunday, he’ll become the first player in NFL history to play a postseason game with two different teams in one season.

Williams has previously played in four other NFC title games: 2007, 2010, 2014 and 2019.

Former Packers general manager Ted Thompson originally signed Williams to the practice squad in 2006.

The Packers also elevated defensive lineman Brian Price and cornerback KeiVarae Russell from the practice squad, signed punter Ryan Winslow to the practice squad and released running back Dexter Williams from the practice squad.
