Packers running back Aaron Jones was a proud cousin and one of the UConn men's basketball team's biggest supporters during its national championship run

Aaron Jones has been one proud cousin these last few weeks and essentially became the ultimate UConn Huskies fan.

In between Jones' recent workouts with quarterback Jordan Love in California, the Packers running back has been popping up at UConn Huskies games during the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

And on Monday night, Jones was all over NRG Stadium in Houston for UConn's 76-59 win over San Diego State to support his cousin, Tristen Newton, one of the stars of UConn's national championship team.

From the stands, Jones became one of the Huskies' biggest fans as the camera frequently found him as he rocked Newton's No. 2 jersey every tournament game. Jones was even part of the post-game celebration Monday night with Newton and his teammates, giving his cousin a celebratory lift during the festivities.

Jones has documented being in arenas and stadiums during UConn's run to the national title on his social media accounts with his brother, Alvin. They were in Las Vegas for the Sweet 16 last month.

In the Huskies' win over the Aztecs Monday night, Newton had a game-high 19 points, a high mark for the senior guard since he scored 21 back on Jan. 31. On Saturday, Newton had a game-high eight assists in the team's 72-59 national semifinal win over Miami. He was one of three UConn Huskies to earn a spot on the Final Four All-Tournament Team.

Newton spent the first three years of his college career at East Carolina University.

Like Jones, Newton is from El Paso, Texas.

Jones, who attended the University of Texas at El Paso, always honors those roots when he proudly wears a green and gold sombrero before games for the Packers. Newton continued the head gear family tradition when he wore a Final Four cowboy hat a few days ago.

"Shoutout Aaron Jones, I'm going to get a big one just for him," Newton said.

Aaron Jones has been working with Packers quarterback Jordan Love this offseason

Now that UConn's championship season is over, Jones will likely resume workouts with Love, who is poised to be the new starting quarterback for the Packers next season. Jones posted a video on his Instagram account last week that showed Love throwing him passes as he ran routes in a park.

The 28-year-old Jones, who will be entering his seventh season with the Packers in 2023, rushed for a career-high 1,121 yards in 2022. He also caught a career-high 59 passes last year, though the 6.7 yards per catch were his lowest since his rookie season. He also had a career-high five fumbles. Jones restructured his contract earlier in the offseason that equaled a $5 million pay cut for next season.
