Pacolet police officer charged with giving info to suspect under investigation

A Pacolet Police Department officer was charged Wednesday with misconduct in office.

Timothy Wayne Williams, 30, was arrested for improperly performing a warrant check on a criminal suspect from a Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office database and a South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles database and disseminating the information to the suspect, according to the S.C. Law Enforcement Division.

According to the arrest warrant, between Nov. 17, 2021, and Jan. 26, 2022, Williams used his official capacity as law enforcement to obtain information for an individual who was a suspect in the theft of golf carts, a matter being investigated by the Sheriff's Office.

Williams performed warrant checks on Nov. 17 and 18 for the suspect to see whether he had any warrants. There were messages dating from Nov. 12 to Nov. 18 between Williams and the arrested suspect.
