Paddleboarder comes face to face with whale off coast of Plymouth

A photographer captured the wild moment a whale breached in front of a paddleboarder in Plymouth.

The encounter happened Sunday off Manomet Point, photographer Craig Picariello told Boston 25 News. He says he’d been going out there for a couple weeks hoping for some good shots, but he never expected to take photos like the ones he did on Sunday.

Picariello knows the paddleboarder and was using him as a marker for where the whales might be located.

Picariello says he loves photographing the Plymouth area. Last year, he shot some photos of lightning near the Mayflower, and he sometimes visits Manomet Point early in the morning to take pictures of the sunrise.
