Fred Couples, Padraig Harrington, Brad Faxon among final field for Chubb Classic

Former World No. 1 Fred Couples, 2020 European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington, and multiple PGA Tour winner Brad Faxon were among the final commitments to this year's Chubb Classic, set for Feb. 17-19 at Tiburón Golf Club’s Black Course in Naples.

The field for the 36th anniversary of the Classic presented by SERVPRO was released just after 5 p.m. Friday.

Couples, the 1992 Masters champion and a World Golf Hall of Famer, has 68 professional victories. He has 14 wins on the Champions Tour, including two majors.

Harrington recorded four Champions Tour wins in 2022, including the U.S. Senior Open and the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, finishing the year second in the Cup standings. He will make his Champions season debut and his second-straight Chubb Classic appearance. Harrington has 36 professional victories worldwide, including two Open Championship wins (2007, 2008) and the 2008 PGA Championship.

Faxon, an eight-time PGA Tour and two-time Champions winner, will also be making his Champions debut at the Chubb, his 12th overall appearance at the event.

Joining Harrington and Faxon are 2022 PGA TOUR Champions Q-School graduates Brian Cooper, Richard Green, David McKenzie, Tim O’Neal, and Wes Short, Jr. All but Short will be making their Chubb Classic debuts.

These players, along with defending Chubb Classic champion Bernhard Langer, will be among the 78-player field competing in the 54-hole championship for a share of the $1.8 million purse. Previous commitments include 2021 Chubb champion Steve Stricker, Hall-of-Famers Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, and Sandy Lyle, and major champions Jim Fuyrk and Tom Lehman. The final three spots were determined via Tuesday's Qualifier at The Forest Country Club in Fort Myers with Matt Gogel (5-under 67), Alan Morin (67) and Mario Tiziani (67) joining the field. All three rounds will be televised live on the Golf Channel.

The Chubb Classic is the longest-running Champions Tour event in the same metropolitan area, getting its start in Southwest Florida at The Club Pelican Bay in 1988. Tiburón has hosted the tournament since 2021.

Limited general admission and exclusive hospitality tickets are still available for the Chubb Classic. All service personnel, including military, police, fire, and EMS, and a plus one will receive free admission, compliments of SERVPRO. Children under 18 will also be admitted free to the tournament with a paid adult.

A portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to local charities throughout Southwest Florida. The Chubb Classic has supported more than 39 charitable organizations in the area since its inception in 1988.
