Pain at the pump: Record-high gas prices put pressure on drivers in Central Florida

Drivers in Central Florida have seen another week of record-high gas prices.

The average price for a gallon of gas in Florida as of Sunday evening was $4.49, which is two cents higher than the national average.

Rep. Val Demings posted on social media Sunday that gas prices are now surpassing $5 a gallon in some parts of the state.

Channel 9 spoke with some drivers who said at the rate the prices are going, they are trying to stay home as much as possible.

Gregory Jane said since his car takes premium, it costs more than $70 to fill his tank.

“It’s crazy because I’m just trying to survive in this world with these gas prices. I’m just trying to get here and get there, and they just keep shooting up,” Jane said.

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a tax relief package last week that included up to a quarter off every gallon for 30 days, but it does not take effect until October.
