Painesville Township to hold eighth annual Family Fun Day on Aug. 27

Aug. 20—Painesville Township officials are gearing up for the community's eighth annual Family Fun Day on Aug. 27, shortly after the conclusion of the Project Hope for the Homeless Jog with a Frog.

Both events will be hosted at the Lake County History Center, located at 415 Riverside Drive, as a partnership between the township and emergency homeless shelter. Jog with a Frog, a 5K and one mile walk, starts at 8:30 a.m., while Family Fun Day will go from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

According to Township Administrator Anthony Zampedro, this year's family event will expand upon previous Family Fun Days.

"Last year was pretty much back to normal, so we're building off that template," he said.

Zampedro noted that the bouncy house and bouncy slide will be joined by a 40-foot obstacle course for some of the older kids. Other attractions will include Jungle Terry, rides from Euclid Beach Rocket Car, bubbles from Dr. U.R. Awesome, an insect show from Dr. Insecta, touch a truck, the Cartwheel Connection bus and more.

He said that Fire and Ice, located just down the road at 970 Riverside Drive, will make its first appearance at Family Fun Day. Visitors will be able to purchase hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, ice cream and more.

The Mounted Unit from the Lake County Sheriff's Office will visit the event for the first time, Zampedro added, while the University Hospitals AirMed will touch down around noon.

Visitors with an interest in local history can tour the Pioneer Village at the Lake County History Center. According to Zampedro, the center will also operate two bus tours of the township's historical sites.

He added that admission and most events will be free, though concessions, the Chinese auction and some of the attractions will require payment. The auction will help cover the event's costs.

According to Zampedro, the event is funded by donors, sponsors and grants, including one from NOPEC.

In June, Zampedro announced that Marc's had donated $5,000 to support township events including Family Fun Day, Family Movie Night and the Children's Christmas Party. At the Aug. 9 township trustee meeting, he announced that Giant Eagle had contributed kids bikes for the auction. A full list of sponsors will be displayed on a banner at the event.

Zampedro said that the township trustees and staff have all been involved in the event's planning.

"It's about providing that extra little quality of life for our residents, those that want to come and enjoy it. We aim to make it affordable and fun," Zampedro said.

More information, including a full schedule of events, can be found in the township's August 2022 quarterly newsletter, available at painesvilletwp.com.
