IN THE PAINT: Dunmore sees opportunity in injuries

Jan. 22—There's no announced timetable for the return of 6-foot-4 Dunmore star Ciera Toomey, the North Carolina-bound standout who continues her rehab from a torn ACL that was operated on eight months ago.

Now, the Lady Bucks are missing a second starter, leading scorer Sophia Talutto going down with an ankle injury in the 65-36 triumph over Riverside on Jan. 12.

While injuries might derail some team's late-season aspirations, Dunmore's made the most of the chance to reshuffle its rotation and add minutes down the bench.

"They're huge because now they don't have to just rely on Sophia (Talutto)," Dunmore coach Carrie Toomey said. "She'll feel better giving it up to the other players on the team. "They're all working. I feel like we're just getting better. That's the goal, to get better and better every single game."

Sophia Summa (17) and Allie Dempsey (12) both hit four 3s and notched career highs in Thursday's 69-39 win over Old Forge.

Streakers

Scranton Prep and Dunmore remain ranked first and second, respectively, in The Times-Tribune girls basketball poll, and both added two to their league winning streaks last week.

With its victories over Valley View and Wallenpaupack, Scranton Prep's Division I win streak reached 73 games. The last loss by the Classics in a league contest came at the hands of Scranton, 49-47, on Feb. 6, 2017.

Scranton Prep also has a 52-game home winning streak on Father Keller Court in the Xavier Center, dating back to a 45-38 defeat at the hands of West Scranton on Jan. 26, 2017.

Dunmore's Division III win streak stands at 62 games after victories over Holy Cross and Old Forge. The last loss for the Lady Bucks came Jan. 15, 2018, on their home floor at the hands of Holy Cross, 56-48.

Thirtysomething

While Montrose saw its 11-game win streak halted by Lake-Lehman on Saturday, the Lady Meteors also have been rolling past Division IV opponents in impressive fashion.

Even after eking out a 43-36 win over Mountain View, Montrose has won its five league contests by an average of 30.6 points.
