Paints blow a six-run lead in 13-8 loss to West Virginia Miners

BECKLEY, WV – The Chillicothe Paints scored six runs in the top of the first inning, but it wasn’t enough in a 13-8 Prospect League loss against the West Virginia Miners Saturday night.

The Miners (16-23) rallied for six runs of their own in the third inning and would eventually take the lead for good in the seventh inning by plating seven runs after the Paints (26-15) had taken an 8-6 lead in the top of the seventh.

The Miners finished with 14 hits compared to seven for the Chillicothe.

The Paints took advantage of mistakes in the first inning and five of their six runs were unearned.

Hunter Klontz led the Paints by going 2-for-5 with an RBI and Own Wilson went 2-for-4. Anthony Steele knocked in two runs, while Mike Sprocett had a two-run double, and Tim Orr had a double and an RBI. Ben Gbur contributed a double and Nate Dorinsky had an RBI.

Five different pitchers toed the rubber for the Paints. Starter, Sebastian Escobar pitched four innings, giving up eight hits and six runs while striking out four and walking two.

After an off day on Monday, the Paints will return home to VA Memorial Stadium to face the Johnstown Mill Rats at 7:05 p.m.
