A man and woman arrested in Apple Valley were found to have several people’s items in their car, including debit and identification cards after a deputy pulled them over following a report of a pair going through mailboxes, authorities said.

One of the suspects, 36-year-old Marques King of Victorville, pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday to having personal identification of more than 10 people.

He is being held in county jail in lieu of $425,000 bail for his recent charges and two other pending cases.

The driver, 35-year-old Marilyn Sandoval, also faces the same potential charge when arraigned.

Booking records show she was released from custody on her recognizance a day after her arrest last weekend. Sandoval did not have a court appearance scheduled.

The two were arrested the afternoon of Nov. 20 after a deputy was dispatched to the area of Jicarilla and Yucca Loma roads for a vehicle following a mail truck, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

A caller reported that “the two subjects were in a gold Honda Accord and were stopping and going through mailboxes,” authorities said.

About 20 minutes later, sheriff’s dispatch received another call of the pair taking mail from boxes in the 12000 block of Navajo Road.

The Apple Valley deputy spotted the gold Honda in the area of Lone Eagle and Redwing roads and conducted a traffic stop.

“During a search of the vehicle, several debit cards, social security cards, identification cards, birth certificates, and unemployment paperwork, in various peoples' names, were located,” the sheriff’s department said.

Officials said King was a convicted felon and had an active felony warrant. Court records show he has two other active cases pending against him: One for burglary and grand theft and another for grand theft.

King pleaded not guilty to those charges on Tuesday. Sandoval also has previous felony convictions, records show.

Possession of personal identifying information with the intent to defraud can be punished by a fine and/or imprisonment not to exceed one year if convicted.
