Yahoo Autos Get a Pair of Jag E-Types for its 60th Birthday
There is no shortage of things to do with your classic and gorgeous Jaguar E-Type. You can have it restored by the company, you can display it at literally any car show, you can swap out the 3.8 for an electric motor if you like, and now you can by a pair of “new” ones, celebrating the 60th birthday of what was once described as “the most beautiful car in the world.”
Jaguar is creating six matched pairs to celebrate the anniversary in 2021 called the E-Type 60 Collection. The new cars will pay tribute to two of its oldest: “9600 HP” and “77RW,” both of which played important roles at the launch of the E-Type in Geneva in 1961.
The first, an opalescent gunmetal gray 3.8-liter fixed-head coupe was one of the first E-Types unveiled to guests at the Parc des Eaux Vives in Switzerland. It was driven flat out from Coventry, Jag’s home, to Geneva the night before the launch. There was such a great reaction, according to Jaguar, that development engineer Norman Dewis was told to drop everything and bring another, this one in British Racing Green, to the event overnight for media road tests.
The six pairs will be produced at the Jaguar Classic Works facility in Warwickshire, all of which will be built from existing 1960s vehicles. The fixed-head will be painted in what Jag is now calling “flat-out gray” while the roadster will be in “drop everything green.” Each E-type 60 Edition will feature a number of 60th anniversary commemorative design details created in conjunction with Jaguar Design Director Julian Thomson.
