Pair left infant alone in car during Home Depot theft, Hercules police say

(KRON) — Two suspects who were arrested on drug and gun charges Monday left an infant all alone inside a car during an alleged theft at Home Depot, according to the Hercules Police Department. Police officers responded to the report of a theft in progress at 4:24 p.m.

Hercules police saw the two suspects exiting the Home Depot, located at 1625 Sycamore Avenue, and approach a Chevy Cruze parked in a handicap space, authorities said. The Chevy had its engine running, and an infant was found alone in a car seat inside the vehicle.

One of the suspects was on felony probation for a robbery, and a probation search of the vehicle ensued. Officers found “large quantities” of marijuana packaged for sales along with bottles of promethazine with no prescription label, Hercules PD said.

A family member was summoned to the scene to take custody of the infant.

In a probation search of one of the suspects’ homes in Hercules, police said more marijuana, an unregistered Micro Draco firearm and an unregistered pistol were located.

The two suspects were arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on various firearm and marijuana charges.
