A theft and a chase

Shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, dispatchers received a complaint about suspicious activity on the 24000 of 205th Street, LeClaire.

Law enforcement alleges Adams and Wheeler “entered into a residential garage without the right to the property, permission from the property owner, and they had an intent to commit a theft,” arrest affidavits say. A deputy saw them “as they walked away from the residential garage with a handful of tools in their possession.”

“The Deputy on scene was in full uniform, identified himself as Police, and told both … to stop,” affidavits show. They two “failed to comply and quickly entered a 2013 Chrysler 200,” according to affidavits, which say the two were seen exiting the driveway and traveled westbound on 205th Street.

LeClaire Police followed the Chrysler as it traveled west on 205th Street and tried to stop the Chrysler by activating both their emergency lights and siren, affidavits show. The driver “refused to comply by ignoring all visible and audio signals to stop, and proceeded to drive away from LeClaire Police,” affidavits say.

A pursuit began from the victim’s residence and concluded near Arconic at the 4800 block of State Street, affidavits show. “The Chrysler was disabled using police stop sticks which deflated its tires” and the men were apprehended.

The two “were interviewed Post-Miranda and admitted to committing the above actions,” law enforcement alleges in affidavits.

Both Adams and Wheeler are being held on $5,000 cash-only bond in Scott County Jail, and are set for preliminary hearings Jan. 30 in Scott County Court.
