Pair win West Branch spelling bees

West Branch Local Schools is celebrating two spelling bee winners who were crowned Jan. 4 at West Branch Middle School.

Students were divided into bees for sixth- through eighth-graders, and another event for those in fourth and fifth grades.

Winning the older students’ event was eighth-grader Christopher Kosenski. His winning word was D-E-C-I-B-E-L-S. Coming in second place was sixth-grader Brieanna Call.

Winning the bee for the younger students was fifth-grader Michael Rodriguez, who spelled C-O-N-F-I-D-E-N-T correctly to win. Coming in second place was fifth-grader Avery Cushman.

Pronouncer for the bees was former West Branch Superintendent Scott Weingart. Coordinator was Cari Conaway, who teaches language arts at West Branch Middle School.
