Paleontologists name prehistoric species after Zelenskyy

This particular crinoid fossil was found near the Nile River in 2021. While these animals used to widespread across the planet in prehistoric times, scientists were still pleased to discover a whole new species.

The group of Polish paleontologists said the discovery is the earliest known piece of evidence that crinoids possessed remarkable regenerative capacity, indicating that this class of animals began its evolution as early as in the Jurassic Period.

Ausichicrinites zelenskyyi is unique in its structure of appendages and tendrils, which are quite different from those found in other crinoids.
