Palestine chase ends with man arrested for driving stolen vehicle, drug possession

PALESTINE, Texas (KETK) – The Palestine Police Department said that a man was arrested for driving a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest after a chase on Friday.

Around 11 a.m. PPD office Nick Martinez tried to do a traffic stop on a 2013 Nissan Altima in the 1100 block of South Loop 256 when the driver failed to stop. A chase started and lasted around two miles when the Nissan stopped in the 100 block of Oakland Drive, PPD said.

James Harold Johnson, 30 of Palestine, was taken out of the vehicle and put into custody. Officials said that a 1.46 gram bag of suspected methamphetamines was found and then it was learned that the Nissan was reportedly stolen.

Johnson was arrested for evading arrest/detention with a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless driving and two outstanding warrants.
