Palestinians Mourn 9 Killed in IDF Raid on Jenin Refugee Camp

A funeral was held on Thursday, January 26, for nine Palestinians, including an elderly woman, who the Palestinian health ministry said were fatally shot by Israeli forces during a raid in the West Bank.

The Palestinian health ministry said Israeli forces shot dead nine people, while a further 20 were wounded, in the Jenin Refugee Camp. At least four of those wounded were in a critical condition, it added.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they were looking into Palestinian reports that nine people were dead after a “counterterrorism operation to apprehend an Islamic Jihad terror squad in the Jenin Camp” early on January 26.

The IDF said its targets were “heavily involved in planning and executing multiple major terrorist attacks” and that security forces were fired upon. At least “three terrorists were neutralized,” they added.

Footage and images posted on Twitter by the IDF show the raid on the camp.

No Israeli soldiers were hurt during the raid, the IDF reported.

A general strike was declared on Thursday across the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem. Fatah, which controls the Palestinian Authority, called on Palestinians to confront Israeli forces at checkpoints, Wafa news agency reported.

This footage from the funeral procession, filmed by the Quds News Network in Jenin, shows people marching and chanting while carrying the bodies of several people. Multiple gunshots are heard.
