Palm Bay motorcyclist killed, passenger injured in Grant-Valkaria crash

GRANT-VALKARIA — A 29-year-old Palm Bay motorcyclist was killed and his passenger seriously injured in a crash early Saturday along a darkened road in Grant-Valkaria, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The deadly crash happened at about 12:05 a.m. as the motorcycle was traveling west on a winding portion of Valkaria Road near the intersection of Hideaway Lane.

FHP investigators reported that the driver "failed to negotiate the curve," causing the motorcycle to veer off the road and overturn. The motorcycle collided with a concrete culvert in a water-filled ditch, FHP reports show.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 27-year-old woman from Palm Bay, was seriously injured and transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne for treatment, the agency reported.
