Palm Bay teacher Thomas Rebman named a 2022 'Brainly Educator of the Year'

An Odyssey Charter School teacher is one of three 2022 Brainly educators of the year.

The winners were voted on by members of the public and were recognized in one of three categories: STEM, English and history, and arts and languages. Thomas Rebman, a teacher at Odyssey Charter School, won the English and History category.

Brainly is a learning platform for students and teachers to ask and answer homework questions.

Rebman and other winners earned a $500 donation towards a DonorsChoose classroom fundraising campaign, a $250 gift card towards educational supplies and a featured post on Brainly Insights, the website’s blog.

“Mr. Rebman was always devoted to helping his students pass the EOC (Civics End of Year Test). No matter how his students treated him it was his nature to stay by your side to help you,” the nomination for Rebman read.

“He has proved himself time and time again by being in the top few percent in schools in the state. He has also been interviewed by news channels and even won an award. All in all Mr. Rebman is a great teacher that has helped countless students and people achieve greatness," it added.

The students who nominated each teacher won a Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablet and a 1-year subscription to Brainly Plus. Any student over age 13 in high school or middle school or their parent could nominate teachers.

Katie Kwak, a math teacher at Alden High School in Alden, New York and Kaycee Ferguson, a History and ELA teacher at Chinook Middle School in Kennewick, Washington, won the STEM and arts and languages categories.

Rebman is a homelessness awareness advocate as well as a teacher. He made for traveling around Florida in 2015 and living on the streets with people experiencing homelessness and helped raise $10,000 for Palm Bay’s first cold-night shelter, which opened in 2018.
