Palm Beach estate, Steve Wynn’s old Lake Tahoe mansion among priciest U.S. homes for sale

Palm Beach’s only private island and a Lake Tahoe estate originally built by Palm Beach resident and former casino mogul Steve Wynn are among the most expensive homes for sale across the country.

Tarpon Island took the No. 2 spot nationally on Point2’s ranking of the priciest homes in each state and Washington, D.C., that are for sale this fall. Tarpon Island also is the most expensive residential property listed for sale in Florida.

Tarpon Island, with its renovated and expanded 1930s-era house, dropped out of the multiple listing service in June with an asking price of $218 million. But it is still available for sale, according to sources familiar with the property.

Developer Todd Michael Glaser put together an investment group that bought the Estate Section island for $85 million in July 2021. With 360-degree views of the Intracoastal Waterway, Tarpon Island measures about 2.3 acres. Addressed as 10 Tarpon Isle, the 11-bedroom house and guesthouse have 28,618 total square feet of living space, inside and out.

Tarpon Island's amenities include a five-car garage; a 98-foot swimming pool with a whirlpool spa and a "cold plunge" pool; one of the town's only lighted tennis courts and an indoor spa with a massage room, hair salon, steam room and sauna. The layout also includes an entertainment room with a fireplace, wine storage, billiards area and movie lounge.

Meanwhile, Wynn’s former 14,197-square-foot “Old Forge” estate at 1041 Lakeshore Blvd. in Incline Village was the most expensive home listed in Nevada, according to Point2.

The $76 million asking price was fifth overall out of 51 homes.

The Old Forge was built in 1994 by Wynn, who paid a $10 million settlement earlier this year over workplace sexual misconduct claims. It last sold for $31 million in 2017, according to Washoe County Assessor records.

In addition to lakefront views and a private beach, the Old Forge estate boasts seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a jet ski platform, a guesthouse, a game room, a massage room and a wine room.

Any bargain hunters might want to check out Nebraska, where the least expensive house on the list is at 10701 Old Cheney Road in Lincoln, on the market for $3.89 million.
