Palm Beach Society: Hanley supporters gather in anticipation of season ...such as it is

Jason Biggs once again opened his Palm Beach home for a reception honoring the leadership, committee and sponsors of the Hanley Foundation's upcoming fundraisers.

The event took place Dec. 1 and served as a preview of the foundation's social season.

We should clarify that to read "expected" social season. Expectations have changed.

The evening included cocktails, mocktails, hors d'oeuvres, music and remarks from foundation CEO Jan Cairnes.

“We are excited to be here this evening to spotlight our upcoming events and thank our event leadership, committees and sponsors,” said Cairnes. "We look forward to seeing you at the Palm Beach Dinner, the 27th annual Family Picnic and the Golf Classic. We couldn’t be the nonprofit statewide leader in adolescent substance use prevention and education without your support.”

The Palm Beach Dinner, chaired by Judy and Fritz Van der Grift and Stacey Leuliette, was scheduled to take place on Thursday at the Sailfish — until the omicron variant of COVID-19 reared its ugly porcupine-y head.

The dinner has been postponed. It will instead take place March 31, at the Sailfish Club and will benefit Hanley Foundation’s missions of prevention programming and recovery support.

The 27th annual Family Picnic, chaired by Kelly and Joe Rooney and Ann-Britt and Christian Angle, takes place at the National Croquet Center in West Palm Beach on March 6 and underscores the foundation’s belief that “family time is time well spent.”

The picnic will include lunch, activities and silent auction items for kids and adults and will benefit substance misuse prevention programming throughout Florida.

The Hanley Foundation Golf Classic takes place on April 11 at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach.

Nellie Benoit, Nancy Caraboolad and Virginia Mortara are chairwomen for the longstanding event, which will begin with a shotgun start, followed by 18 holes of competitive play.

A silent auction, lunch and awards presentation will follow. Proceeds benefit addiction treatment scholarships.

More than 60 people attended the kickoff reception.
